Six short videos β installation and everyday use, step by step.
The extension is installed on the child's computer from the Chrome Web Store. Works in Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, and other Chromium browsers.
β¬ Open in Chrome Web StoreA 6-digit code (e.g. A4B7K2) generated in the dashboard when adding a child. The code is valid for 1 hour. After pairing, the extension keeps a long-lived token and the code is no longer needed.
Are you a parent or teacher who wants to get a code for this child? Click directly:
After signing in, in the dashboard click "+ Add child" and you'll receive a pairing code to enter in the extension on this child's PC.
π‘ Tip: If you're currently on the child's PC and want to manage the account from your own computer, sign up here, hand the code to the child, and later log in on your own PC β everything stays synced.
If YouTube Mentor is part of family supervision, ask your parent. They'll generate the code in the dashboard via "+ Add child" or, for an existing child, "Re-pair".
If the extension is deployed in a classroom, get the code from your teacher. Teachers have their own school dashboard with all students.
When adding a child, pick one of three modes. They differ in how visible the extension is in YouTube.
A small bar appears below every video saying "I have a parent's extension". The child knows about the extension β transparent, builds trust. Best choice for most families.
A larger active bar with lessons and quizzes. Suitable for a learning-focused mode where the child actively engages.
No visible elements in YouTube. The child doesn't need to know the extension is running. You see activity only in the dashboard.
The dashboard has 7 main tabs:
Click a child name in "Children" β detail with tabs:
A thin bar appears at the bottom of the YouTube window with monitoring info. Click opens a small popup with watch history and minutes today.
Like Standard, but taller bar with the current educational lesson/quiz. The child can tap to answer and earn points.
No visual elements. Extension runs in the background and sends data to the dashboard.
Clicking the red M icon opens a small popup with quick stats (today's time, top channel) and buttons Open dashboard and Disconnect.
In Channels, add a channel URL (e.g. youtube.com/@somechannel). Videos from that channel won't load β replaced by "This channel was blocked by your parent".
With active whitelist, the child only sees channels on the list. Everything else is hidden. Suitable for younger children or schools.
Special setting: Shorts only appear from whitelisted channels. Works even without a global whitelist.
In Lessons, create a short lesson (question + answer choices). In Learning mode, the child sees it directly in the YouTube bar. Correct answer = points.
In Push, send the child a specific YouTube video. Options:
chrome://extensions, find YouTube Mentor, click "Remove" and install again.chrome://extensions that it's "Enabled" and click "Refresh" in dashboard.
